In 2024, our team embarked on the journey of renewing our Department of Tourism (DOT) accreditation. This process involved many unexpected changes, but the good thing is we are ready.
What Changes Did DOT Make?
During a visit to our office last year, DOT informed us that the Online Travel Agency (OTA) category was no longer in place. Since everybody is using messaging apps and booking is now done mostly online, everybody is considered as OTA. As far as I know, we are the only locally accredited OTA with a functional website that accepts booking and payment, social media presence and use the latest technologies.
This news prompted us to rethink our approach and consider establishing a physical travel agency office in Angeles City. Having a showroom office was already our dream so by March on our 2nd year anniversary, our new Travel and Tours Agency office in Angeles City was up and running, ready to serve our clients in a more personalized way.
What Were the Renewal Requirements?
When June rolled around, it was time for us to apply for renewal. This time, DOT required us to submit documents demonstrating a capital of P500,000, either in the form of audited financial statements or bank statement. While this was a new requirement for us, we were determined to meet it and continue our journey as a DOT accredited entity.
Why the Change to Tour Operator?
During the inspection process, DOT suggested that we change our application from being a travel and tours agency to a tour operator. Possibly because our office has lots of photos of Philippines destinations and we are named Pinatubo Mountainero. This change allowed us to offer more specialized services and cater to the specific needs of our clients. As a DOT accredited tour operator in Central Luzon, we have the opportunity to curate unique experiences and provide a higher level of service to those seeking unforgettable travel adventures.
Why is This the Best Thing?
Becoming a DOT accredited tour operator has opened up a world of possibilities for our agency. We now have the flexibility to focus on designing custom tours, partner with local and international businesses, and create memorable experiences for our clients. This new designation has elevated our status in the industry and positioned us as a trusted provider of high-quality travel services. We are proud to be a DOT accredited tour operator and look forward to continuing to exceed the expectations of our clients.
